INDICATIONS:

For the treatment of pain including muscular, rheumatic, dental, postoperative and postpartum pain and headache.

FORMULATION:

Each tablet contains:
Mefenamic Acid …………………. 500 mg

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES:

Mefenamic acid has an anti-inflamatory activity it has also an antipyretic and analgesic properties. In test of analgesia, mefenamic acid was the only fenamate to display a central as well as peripheral action.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS:

Mefenamic acid may give rise to diarrhea or rashes which may necessitate discontinuation of treatment. Rarely leucopenia or hemolytic anemia may occur.

PRECAUTIONS:

Contraindicated in patients with ulceration or inflamation of the gastrointestinal tract. Use with caution in patients with impaired renal of liver functions. It should be given with caution to patients with renal impairment. Treatment should not be continued for longer than 7 days, except in the treatment of Still’s disease.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation and it should be avoided in patients with inflamatory diseases.

DOSAGE:

Adult Dose: 1 tablet three times a day preferably taken with food or as prescribed by the physician. Treatment should not be continued for longer than seven days, or as prescribed by the physician.

WARNING:

ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Not to be given to those patients who have history of:
- Stroke: Crerbrovascular accident, CVA
- Heart attack: Myocardial infarction, MI
- Coronary artery bypass graft: (CABG)
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Congestive heart failure (CHF) NYHA II-IV

a) Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity ti ASA or any other NSAIDs
b) NSAIDs are contraindicated in patients with previous or active peptic ulceration.
c) Use with caution in patients with cardiac, liver and renal disease. Dose adjustment like using the lowest effective dose and monitoring of renal and liver functions should be instituted.
